SOLRAD Presents: Lily O’Donnell Interviews KRYSTINE KRYTTRE

This project was made for the Portfolio Program at the Independent Publishers’ Resource Center in Portland, Oregon. It is a comic interview conducted by Lily O’Donnell with the legendary cartoonist Krystine Kryttre. After the interview, Lily finished the comic, emailed it to Krystine, who told Lily that it made her cry, which is, of course, the greatest honor ever. Then, a month later, Lily happened to be traveling in the small town of Galway City, Ireland to visit family and walked past the famous Charlie Byrne’s Bookstore, where, sitting in the front entrance, was the iconic anthology “Twisted Sister.” The exact copy Lily had bought years ago that had taken her to Kryttre’s work and inspired her so much. Life is funny and often filled with cosmic coincidences.

Krystine and Dori were the singular genius cartoonist talents from the San Francisco scene of the ’80s. They each created their own sequential art worlds, capturing and creating the Zeitgeist of that place and time.
The original generation of the underground were just hitting middle age at the time, and they welcomed and supported the emergent alt/UG talent of the 80s. It was pretty darn exciting.

Krystine K was a major inspiration to me as well, and this beautiful comic captures her perfectly. Brava, Lily O’Donnell ~ ~ ~
