


What if the bird flu turned people into birds? How does sickness change people? How can friendship transpire in dire times? These are some of the questions explored in Flu Season, a short comic story about two friends, ecological collapse, and the complications and possibilities of relating to each other in an increasingly uninhabitable world.
Dionne Co is a writer and cartoonist based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Her narrative-based comics are rooted in scenes of everyday life and explore themes around alienation, intimacy, and precarity. She has published over fifteen books and zines through her micro-press Dialectical Comics. Her story “The Voice I Must Resist” won the Herizons Feminist Comic Contest award in 2026.
